animation and game design

Kia ora! I'm a professional animator and amateur game designer based out of Christchurch, New Zealand. I have worked in the NZ Television Industry for many years across a variety of projects, from beloved shows such as Fanimals and One Way Out, to classics such as What Now.

I am available for work, so get in touch.

comics

The Last Magi (2020-ongoing)

Writer / Illustrator

An ongoing webcomic, The Last Magi tells the story of a nameless being known only as “The Magi” and the journey that they go on to avenge their decimated community. But not all is as it seems, with the Magi beginning to uncover a dark conspiracy…

The Last Magi updates intermittently on Sundays. You can read along on the website or buy the PDFs at itch.io.

The Distortion Beast: A Choosey Comic (2019)

Writer / Illustrator

The Distortion Beast was my second foray into branched narrative storytelling, taking the form of a pick-a-path comic book that I released at Chromacon 2019. It tells the tale of Maria of Cardo, an adventurer and mercenary for hire who enters the lair of a dangerous beast. You, the reader, take control of Maria and determine how she proceeds through the dungeon and whether or not she survives.

If you’d like a copy of the book, I only have a few copies left so get in touch.

games

Solheim: The Abyssal City (Boardgame, In-Progress)

Designer

Solheim: The Abyssal City is a weird fantasy dungeon crawler board-game where you explore the living city of Solheim, fighting creatures, learning knowledge from lore, and try to survive.

It is currently in development. Keep up to date by subscribing to my newsletter.

The Distortion Beast (Digital)

Writer / Illustrator / Developer

In order to learn new tools such as the Visual Scripting system in Unity, in 2021 I developed a digital version of The Distortion Beast. It was an interesting and certainly educational process. The Distortion Beast Digital was also featured in the November 2021 Issue of Indiepocalypse.

You can buy The Distortion Beast Digital over on itch.io

One Way Out (2022)

Post Production Director/Motion Designer

One Way Out is a family-friendly horror escape room show. It features a heightened narrative reality aspect, with real people going into the rooms and experiencing the story of a strange rural dairy/corner-store that gets more and more fantastical and horrifying as the series goes on.

I helped run the Post Production of this show, as well as develop some of the motion graphics alongside designer Mike Boulden. Our lead editor, the extremely skilled Tyler King, did what I believe to be the absolute best work of his career. His skill at managing the edit of hundreds of hours of footage across 20 cameras led to one of the best shows we’ve ever made.

The Feed (2022-ongoing)

Post Production Director/Motion Designer

The Feed is an afternoon linking show on the local television channel TVNZ2. I worked on it as Post Production Director simultaneously with What Now, helping to process the recorded links and deliver them to the network as well as coordinate our post-production team to edit, animate and sound mix anything that The Feed required.

Vloggingtons (2021)

Compositor

I worked on the second season of New Zealand animated series The Vloggingtons, working directly with Yoozoo creative director Julian Stokoe to composite the animated plates and backgrounds together. This occasionally necessitated some minor animation work within After Effects to manipulate background elements, props, and lighting.

What Now (2020-ongoing)

Post Production Director/Motion Designer

What Now is a legendary live children’s television show currently airing in its 41st year. After Fanimals ended, I shifted into the position of Post Production Director for What Now, and as of this writing I am still in this position.

I work directly with our motion designers, editors, and audio post team to develop all VTs that will air during the live broadcast of the show on Sunday mornings. The production of this show has not been without its challenges as we have tackled the in-and-out-of-lockdown erratic style of Live production during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Dragon Who Thought He Could (2018-2019)

Creator, Character Artist, Background Artist, Rigger, Animator, Compositor, Voice Actor

"The Dragon Who Thought He Could" was a weekly pick-a-path animated series that aired within children's TV show Fanimals. I co-wrote it with my colleague Rosie Maguire, but otherwise was responsible for drawing every character, rigging them, animating, drawing all background art, and doing final composites for every episode.

Due to the delivery timelines overall for each week of Fanimals broadcasts, I had only 2 days to accomplish this work. Often no more than a day. I never missed a week.

Fanimals (2018-2019)

Motion Designer

Fanimals was an afternoon family variety show themed entirely around animals, and people who were fans of animals. I was the lead motion designer on the show and worked to set the tone and style of all of the graphical stings and transitions featured, ensuring that they matched the branding developed by an external partner.

Fanimals ran for only two years, much to the chagrin of parents and families who loved it dearly.

The Adam and Eve Show (2016-2017)

Motion Design / Post Assist

The Adam & Eve Show was an afternoon teens/young adult variety show produced by WhitebaitMedia. This was my first professional television gig, and I started as the Graphics, Web & Post Assistant in 2016. My job was largely to help out wherever I was needed in terms of editing, motion design, and web or social media work. It was extremely fast paced.

In 2017, I shifted into doing most of the motion design work on the show, with backup work being done by the excellent Mike Boulden.
